Night Landscape Gantrisch

Reducing light pollution in the Gantrisch Area, Switzerland

The Gantrisch Area near Bern in Switzerland is characterized by relatively low light pollution and hence good visibility of the night sky. Currently it already features three astronomical observatories. In addition, the Nature Park strives to obtain the prestigious Dark Sky Place from the International Dark Sky Association – which would make this the first area in Switzerland to hold this label.

Together with the Gantrisch Nature Park and Mountain Wilderness, seecon developed a toolbox to further reduce light pollution. The current project „Night Landscape“ builds on this previous work and aims to take advantage of this unique natural potential for tourism. Together with local stakeholders in tourism and representatives of the Gantrisch Nature Park, ideas for sustainable tourism projects are being developed and implemented. This project also helps sharpen the region’s tourist USP in a sustainable and nature-friendly manner.
