In Lebanon, particularly in rural areas, we were confronted with significant gaps in wastewater management. Existing practices not only create public health concerns but also contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, valuable resources contained in fecal sludge remain unused. We identified an opportunity to address these interconnected challenges by transforming waste into a resource while promoting more sustainable soil management practices in agriculture.

The REPIC project establishes a value chain that transforms locally collected and dried fecal sludge into biochar and biochar enriched soil through pyrolysis. By linking sanitation solutions with the carbon market, the project aims to contribute to the expansion of safe sanitation services in underserved areas through the generation of carbon removal credits.

We at seecon support the REPIC project through strategy development, business model design, and guidance in the development of scalable and financially viable circular sanitation solutions. We support this project through the following activities:

    Explore and discover

We support REPIC in Lebanon by analyzing market conditions and assessing the enabling environment for biochar production from fecal sludge and carbon credit generation.

    Co-create and design

Through the design of an integrated value chain, we support the REPIC project from fecal sludge collection to biochar production and commercialization. We also develop business and financing models that enable the replication and scaling of such value chains.

    Reach and connect

We facilitate knowledge exchange and foster connections between project partners, local implementation activities, carbon market actors, and relevant sector networks.
