Water for Life

Water and Sanitation Project for Piura, Peru

Water infrastructure in Piura, in northern Peru, is characterised for being old and inadequate, as evidenced by extensive water leakages, limited coverage and direct disposal of untreated wastewater. The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) contributes to the rehabilitation and extension of these systems managed by the water utility EPS Grau SA, while at the same time ensuring its efficient operation, building the capacity of the staff to operate according to cost-coverage and business principles.

Initiated in 2015 by the consortium AKUT – seecon, this project aims to contribute to the sustainable growth of Piura, through a reliable and accessible water supply system, as well as to improve the management and governance of the water utility EPS Grau SA. seecon was in charge of carrying out a change management process, based on empowering EPS leaders to prepare their team for change, manage change and reinforce it to achieve sustainability.

seecon worked closely with the Human Resources Department, designing and conducting a leadership training program, which aimed at strengthening the management level of the Paita and Talara zonal areas of EPS Grau, developing attitudes, competencies, values, knowledge and necessary skills that allow them to lead the future of the EPS Grau. The leadership training program consisted of 3 workshops of 3 days each carried out in the months of April, June and September of 2016.
