The water infrastructure in Piura, in northern Peru, is characterised as old and inadequate, as evidenced by extensive water leakage, limited coverage and direct disposal of untreated wastewater. Therefore, as part of the cooperation activities, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) issued a call for proposals to contribute to the rehabilitation and extension of these systems managed by the public utility EPS Grau S. A., while ensuring their efficient operation.

We decided to join forces with Akut Partner in an ambitious project focused on improving the drinking water supply system in the “Eje Paita – Talara”, which includes: the catchment, the Arenal treatment plant and its distribution area in the areas of Paita and Talara. We started the project in 2015, which included an investment component, an institutional and financial component, and a water resource management resource component.

We were in charge of carrying out a change management process based on the empowerment of leaders to prepare their team for change, manage it and reinforce it to achieve sustainability. The components carried out by us were:

    Co-create and design

    • We supported the Institutional Image Office at EPS Grau S.A. in developing an internal communication strategy for the change process.

    Empower

    • We worked closely with the Human Resources Department, designing and conducting a leadership training program, which aimed at strengthening the management level of the Paita and Talara zonal areas of EPS Grau, developing attitudes, competencies, values, knowledge and necessary skills that allow them to lead the future of the EPS Grau. The leadership training program consisted of 3 workshops of 3 days each carried out in April, June, and September 2016.
